YMCA swimming lessons are offered for those ages 6 months and up. Swimming lessons are broken into 5 categories: Parent/child, preschool,
and youth. In YMCA classes, not only are you taught to swim, but you also learn about yourself, about safety and rescue skills, and about water activities that you can enjoy for a lifetime.
Open Programming for Aquatics
We are continuing with this concept to better meet your needs as a busy family. ALL preschool and/or school age level classes will be offered during Open Programming times. Registration and fees will remain the same. Participants will still have proper child/instructor ratio and be placed in a class according to their age and ability. Some levels, just as we do now, may be combined if enrollment is low. Please make sure to check the class descriptions below to know what level to properly register your child. Be sure to check the swimming lesson schedule for marked Open Programming times, days and levels. Registration for Open Programming is now available online.

Water fitness classes can benefit individuals who are just starting to exercise, as well as those who would like a more intense workout (each person exercises at his/her own pace). Water exercises put less stress on joints than land exercises because the effects of gravity are minimized. Working against water resistance improves muscle strength and tone and cardio endurance. Swimming skills are not needed for participation. There is a
10% senior discount for those 60 years and older. Please be sure to ask at the Front Desk.

Circle Swimming What is Circle Swimming?
Circle swimming is basically Follow the Leader and is used when there
are 2 or more swimmers wanting to use the same lane. Always check
with the other swimmer(s) to let them know you would like to circle
swim. After getting the go ahead, enter the water. Always swim
on the right side of the lane. Be sure not to swim over the black
line, as this will be used as a sort of passing lane. For safety
reasons, leave a 5-10 second interval between you and the swimmer in
front of you. If you need to pass the swimmer in front of you,
carefully check for on coming swimmers. Then swim out and around
and back in to your lane quickly, always checking for on coming
swimmers, as they have the right of way. When you get to the wall to
turn, do so quickly and get off to the right side of the lane. If
you stop to rest get as far into the corner of the lane as possible and
watch out for your fellow swimmers. Confused? Visit with a
lifeguard and they can help you out.
